The best days out

Words from Gerard O’Sullivan, Association Chair

If the first hints of autumn and the shift in tempo as schools and colleges settle back into their term-time rhythms are making you think “how on earth did we get here again so soon?” – well, you’re not alone. It gets me every year

But that strengthens my resolve to make the most of my time, and to spend as much of it as possible with friends and family, enjoying favourite pastimes and new experiences. And that, of course, is what Boundless is all about.

With that back-to-school vibe still in the air, it’s the perfect time to learn something new, and our brand new programme of online events – all completely free for members – aims to help you do that. From discovering what psychology has to do with weather forecasts to examining misconceptions about D-Day, there’s plenty to broaden your horizons – you can find out more when you turn to page 34.

In fact, this edition is packed full of ideas, inspiration and ways to make the most of your membership, from brilliant days out to the trip of a lifetime.

Join us on page 46 for a journey into the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley to find out what leaf-peeping means, with Boundless-owned Whitemead Forest Park at the heart of it all. Slightly further afield – although not as far as you might think – we go on a road trip around Canada’s ocean playground of Nova Scotia (page 54), with great deals through Boundless partner Barrhead Travel.

Jumping from Mother Nature to pioneering tech (did you take in the cover?), we explore how this is powering a revolution in immersive experiences. The uber-popular Abba Voyage concert is just the tip of the iceberg...

Elsewhere, we meet craftspeople who help make Christmas feel festive, and explore how to turn a hobby into a side hustle. Do let us know if you’ve done this: we know what a resourceful bunch our members are! Enjoy the issue.
