Enjoy a four-night midweek break at the Cumbria Grand Hotel in Grange-over-Sands, just 6 miles from Lake Windermere. Set within 20 acres of private gardens and woodlands, the AA 3-star Victorian hotel makes the perfect base for exploring one of the most beautiful places in the UK, the Lake District National Park.

Known for its stunning landscapes, lakes, mountains, and charming villages, the Lake District is the UK'S largest World Heritage site - with over 200,000 hectares of land and 13 valleys.

The Lake District offers some of the best hiking trails in the UK. Why not take a leisurely hike around Derwentwater or challenge yourself with a climb up Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. If hiking isn't your thing, enjoy a peaceful boat trip on Lake Windermere. You can rent rowing boats, take a cruise on a steam yacht, or even hire a private motorboat. For more information on boat trips and hire, please click here. There are also plenty of water sports activities and lakeside walks you can enjoy at Lake Windermere. Or drive through the scenic roads of the National Park, such as the Kirkstone Pass or the Honister Pass, which offer breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You can also take a ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway and take in the views from the train!

There are many attractions near the hotel, such as the Lakeland Motor Museum, Holker Hall and Gardens, Sizergh Castle and Gardens (National Trust), Fell Foot Park (National Trust), Stott Park Bobbin Mill (English Heritage) and Lakes Aquarium, all accessible in 15 minutes by car.

There are also a number of historical sites to visit, such as Castlerigg Stone Circle, Wray Castle (National Trust), the ruins of Furness Abbey, or Hill Top (National Trust) the former home of Beatrix Potter and where she wrote many of her famous stories.

If you fancy venturing further, the towns and villages of Ambleside, Keswick and Grasmere can be reached within an hour by car. Here you can explore the quaint shops, cafes and pubs.
