When visiting Great Malvern, exploring the Malvern Hills is a must. The footpaths onto the hills are just a short walk from the hotel and offer stunning views and various hiking or walking trails in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Worcestershire Beacon, the highest point of the Malvern Hills, provides panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. For a more leisurely outdoor experience, head to Priory Park, where you can relax in the beautiful gardens, enjoy the duck pond, and maybe catch a performance at the bandstand on Sunday afternoon if you have added an additional night's stay to this break. There are also 80 working gas lights in the town, making for an atmospheric evening stroll, although please be aware that the streets are steep. Great Malvern also has a Gothic Victorian train station which has a good, regular train service to Hereford and Worcester.
History lovers will find plenty to do on this break. The 15th-century Abbey Gatehouse is just next door to the hotel; here you'll also find the small Museum of Local History, which offers insights into the local history and heritage of the town. The Great Malvern Priory, a beautiful historic church with impressive architecture and stained glass windows, founded in 1085, is also close by. Additionally, The Firs - The Birthplace of Sir Edward Elgar (National Trust) is located a short drive away in Lower Broadheath and celebrates the life and work of the famous composer Sir Edward Elgar. Croome Court (National Trust) is an 18th-century mansion house with a rich and varied history, including its use as RAF Defford during the Second World War. It is reachable within a half-hour drive. Discover the secrets of the airbase today in the RAF Defford Museum, located within the grounds. Also close by is The Museum of Royal Worcester, home to the largest collection of Worcester porcelain in the world; Worcester Commandery, most famous for being the Royalist Headquarters during the deciding battle of the English Civil War; and finally, RHS Old Court Nurseries and The Picton Garden. The renowned Malvern Theatres is also nearby and offers a range of plays, concerts, and films.
For motoring enthusiasts, a visit to the Morgan Motor Company is highly recommended. Here, you can tour the factory where these iconic cars are made. Nearby, Eastnor Castle offers the Eastnor Land Rover Experience, as well as the chance to explore the picturesque grounds and fascinating history. Please note that pre-booking is necessary for both of these places. The Three Counties Showground is another notable venue, hosting a variety of events and shows throughout the year, including the Western Motorhome and Campervan Show on 15 to 17 August 2025.
There are also a number of wine, beer, and cider tours and tastings nearby. For wine, head to Astley Vineyard in Stourport-on-Severn or Three Choirs Vineyards (England's oldest vineyard) in Newent - both are about a 40-minute drive from the hotel. For beer, The Hop Shed Tap Room is just a 15-minute drive from the hotel. Here you can sample the local beers where the hops are grown and the beer is brewed. Finally, for cider, Westons Cider Mill offers tours and tastings as well as Shire Horse Experience days!
