The four-star Cheltenham Chase Hotel provides a relaxing retreat in the countryside, whilst also being just a short drive away from the charms of Cheltenham and Gloucester.
Gloucester offers a wealth of attractions for visitors. Begin with a visit to Gloucester Cathedral, where you can admire its stunning architecture and over 1300 years of history. The cathedral has also featured in several films and TV shows such as Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and Sherlock. Nearby, Gloucester Docks are a great place to explore. Visit the National Waterways Museum and enjoy the shops and eateries at Gloucester Quays. For family-friendly fun, head to the Cotswold Wildlife Park, where you can discover a wide range of animals in beautifully landscaped grounds. Another tranquil spot is Prinknash Abbey, home to a Monastic community inspired by the Rule of St Benedict written 1500 years ago. Visitors are welcome to the Prinknash Estate on designated footpaths, the Walled Garden, the Monastery Shop and Café, and the Chapel is open for quiet prayer. Bird watchers and nature lovers will also enjoy WWT Slimbridge, a haven for wetland birds and other wildlife. It's free to enter as a Boundless member; just remember to show your membership card upon entry.
Just a short drive from the hotel is the spa town of Cheltenham. If you fancy getting outdoors, you can enjoy leisurely autumnal walks in Pittville Park or take on a bigger challenge on the Cotswold Way, offering stunning hiking trails with views of the rolling hills and charming villages. Art and history enthusiasts can head to The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum to discover a range of exhibitions, including fine art, decorative arts, and local history. Or explore the Holst Victorian House, the birthplace of composer Gustav Holst. Sudeley Castle, the home and final resting place of Tudor Queen Katherine Parr, is also close by and offers fascinating exhibits and beautiful gardens. Another historic site is Berkeley Castle, which has been home to the Berkeley family for over 900 years and used as the filming location for a host of TV shows and films, such as Johnny English, Poldark and Miss Marple.
The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway (GWSR) is also a great way to take in the scenery of the Cotswolds. It operates steam and heritage diesel trains between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway through the spectacular scenery of the Cotswolds, offering fabulous views of the sleepy hamlets and villages and outlooks across the Malvern Hills and beyond. The Forest of Dean, a 40-minute drive from the hotel, is perfect for those who enjoy hiking, cycling, and more.
Garden lovers should not miss Painswick Rococo Garden, known for its unique 18th-century design and beautiful setting. Westonbirt Arboretum offers an impressive collection of trees and shrubs, ideal for a peaceful walk or a family adventure. History enthusiasts will also appreciate Chedworth Roman Villa, one of the largest Roman villas in Britain, complete with fascinating mosaics and a museum. Lastly, Tewkesbury Abbey is a must-visit for its stunning Norman architecture and rich history.
The idyllic village of Bourton-on-the-Water is reachable within about 30 minutes by car. Here you will find the Boundless-owned Cotswold Motoring Museum, which is free to enter for Boundless members.
