Love holidays but miss the comforts of home? There’s a way to have both. A Parkdean holiday home offers the chance to really fall in love with a place, and the opportunity to return to it whenever you want.
From seeing the countryside burst into colour in spring, to enjoying glorious winter walks and sunsets on bucolic summer beach holidays and golden weekends away in autumn, here are some of our favourite destinations and year-round activities for all ages.
Spring
Watch lambs gambol and spring bloom in the North Devonshire countryside
The pretty hillside setting of Bideford Bay Holiday Park is perfect in spring, when the woodlands and country lanes are filled with flowers and the hills awash with bouncy lambs. A few miles west lies the glorious Hartland Heritage Coast, while eastward wandering along the coastal path takes in some of the UK’s loveliest beaches, including the spectacular Westward Ho!
Be an island explorer in Renfrewshire
It’s a great jumping-off spot for the Firth of Clyde’s lovely islands, but Wemyss Bay Holiday Park also offers access to some of Renfrewshire’s most exhilarating landscapes, filled with majestic forests, misty lochs and soaring peaks. Access to holiday-home owners for nine months of the year means its many facets can be discovered through almost every season of the year.
Get active in the Lake District with a cycle, climb, hike, sail or canoe
Summer may be peak season in the Lake District, but the best season for exploring its peaks and other attractions is surely spring, when you’ll have the likes of Skiddaw, Scafell Pike and Cat Bells to yourself (almost). Parkdean has four holiday parks in the region, with owners-only Gatebeck, close to Kendal, offering year-round access to the jewel-like Lake District.
Summer
Dive deep and climb high in Cornwall’s western-most point
The caves and azure waters of Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula make for great family adventures, but so too do the on-park attractions at the Lizard Point Holiday Park, where new high-octane activities for 2022 include a high ropes course, bungee trampolines, drone piloting and hoverboards. Creative kids can unleash their inner potter with kiln pottery painting in the new Arts and Crafts Den.
Ride an old London Underground train on the Isle of Wight
What’s not to love about the Isle of Wight? From a train service running to and from Ryde Pierhead using former London Underground electric trains to old-fashioned amusement parks, it immediately wins visitors over with its winsome ways. Historic attractions, pretty settlements like Shanklin’s Old Village and 60+ miles of coastline, including the arresting chalk outcrop of the Needles, just add to the appeal. Parkdean has three sites on this little bit of paradise, and whichever one you choose, you’ll have an unforgettable holiday here.
Be the king of the castle in Poole, Dorset
Is Poole the prettiest family holiday destination in the UK? It’s certainly up there, offering perfect crescent beaches, geological wonders like Studland Bay and Durdle Door, and preposterously quaint settlements like Swanage and Corfe Castle (with of course its own ruined castle), as well as hundreds of activities and attractions close by for all ages. Parkdean’s Sandford Holiday Park is perfectly placed for all of them.
Autumn
Find poetry and peonies galore in Wales
The golden sunlight of autumn seems to bring to life the poetry of Dylan Thomas’s Carmarthenshire, particularly at his home town of Laugharne, or on the seven-mile-long Pendine Sands Beach, where the Pendine Sands Holiday Park is set. Time spent in the National Botanic Garden of Wales, taking tea in the pretty Victorian seaside resort of Tenby, or walking the Pembrokeshire coastal path might bring out your own inner Thomas or Wordsworth.
Light up your life with the autumn foliage of Lancashire’s Todber Valley
Leaf peepers take note! Set between the Forest of Bowland to its west and the Yorkshire Dales’ Nidderdale AONB to its east, Todber Valley Holiday Park is the perfect spot for seeing the splendour of this rugged region’s forests – all at their most splendid in autumn, when the trees are aflame with colour. Pendle Hill, the Ingleton Waterfalls trail and Ribblehead Viaduct are just three of its unmissable attractions.
Reserve a spot to watch seabirds, seals and more across Norfolk’s nature reserves
There are 10 Parkdean Parks across East Anglia, with plenty to enjoy at all of them. In autumn, nature lovers will be in heaven at Manor Park, near Hunstanton. Some of Britain’s best bird-watching sites are close by, among them RSPB Snettisham and Titchwell Marsh, and the nature reserves of Holme Dunes, Scolt Head Island and the wonderfully named Dersingham Bog.
Winter
Walk in a winter wonderland at Camber Sands, East Sussex
Breakfast with Santa, meet his reindeer, take in a panto… a Winter Wonderland break at East Sussex’s Camber Sands Holiday Park offers all kinds of fantastic Christmas fun, including a festive show and concert, movie theatre, pop-up market, and even an ice-rink. Winter Wonderland and Christmas breaks are available in most regions for 2022; visit parkdeanresorts.co.uk/holidays/festive-breaks to find what’s on where… Dorset’s Warmwell even has an outdoor ski slope!
Bring out your inner Tiger in Ayrshire
Sandylands Holiday Park on the Ayrshire coast of East Scotland is close to some of the world’s best golf courses, and with exclusive year-round access to the park, holiday-home owners can now play them in the quieter off-season months as well as the busier summer season. Rail and ferry links offer plenty of activities further afield too, from the city pleasures of Glasgow to outdoor adventures at the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park or the Isle of Arran.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow… in Scarborough?
Cayton Bay near Scarborough makes for a great summer holiday on Yorkshire’s lovely coast, but it’s also huge fun for a Xmas break, thanks to Scarborough’s Christmas markets, ice-skating rink, pantomime, Christmas lights and more. Mind you, that’s assuming kids can tear themselves away from swimming in the waterworld fun pool (complete with a flume), and adults away from the hot tubs of the luxury lodges.
